China's Ministry of Health confirmed a 19-year-old People's Liberation Army(PLA) soldier has been infected with H5N1 bird flu virus, but did not disclose where or how the patient got infected since the patient is military personnel. The infected soldier is from the PLA number 31 Troop Group station, which is listed as one of the top ten Troop Groups in the PLA. According to state-owned media, the patient, surnamed Cheng, started to show symptoms of fever and coughing on May 9, and was admitted into the army hospital on May 14. He was finally confirmed to be infected with Bird Flu virus 10 days later on May 24. According to the Hong Kong-based newspaper The Sun , the infected soldier is from a troop station in Nanan city, Fujian province. He is still in No.180 PLA Hospital in Quanzhou city. Nanan City Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) staff confirmed with The Sun that the soldier was from a troop station in one of Nana's small surrounding towns, Guanqiao, and said, "The Military has its own system, so we don't know the detailed situation." Currently, Nanan and its neighboring cities are taking measures such as checking patients with fever, inspecting poultry farms, and killing suspected poultry to prevent further outbreak of the virus. The Sun also reported that the incident has alarmed the State Council and Central Military Commission of the Chinese communist regime. Vice Minister of Agriculture Yi Chengjie made a special trip to where the solider is currently hospitalized to coordinate the prevention measures. Villagers from
Guanqiao town said that large numbers of police and health department
officials have recently come into the village to kill all poultry
and they did a complete sanitization. Local villagers are now very
scared of being infected by the disease. To date the village has already
gone through the sanitization process twice. Back German firm Covertex, a contractor for roof works on the Beijing Olympics National Stadium, filed for bankruptcy. The stadium also known as "Bird's Nest” is the centerpiece of next year's Games. Hubert Reiter, member of the Covertex management team confirmed that the company has filed for insolvency with the municipal court of Traunstein in southern Germany. He also said it was "not yet clear" whether the firm's insolvency will affect the project. According to Reiter, Covertex ran into financial trouble because
of higher-than-expected costs and delays in payments from its previous
projects. Back According to mainland China media reports, nearing the beginning of summer, already high temperatures continue to rise to that of midsummer, which is very rare. Many Northern provinces have severe drought with visible cracks crisscrossing the dry land. Twelve major mountain rivers out of 18 have partially dried up in the southern area of Ningxia City of Gansu Autonomous Region. Suining City in Sichuan Province had drought in the spring so severe that a 70 some-year-old man said, "This is the most severe drought in my entire life." Surviving Severe Drought in Gansu Depends on Snow The report shows that many cities in Gansu encountered various degrees of drought and the drought has brought great difficulties to local agricultural production and the lives of farmers. Since the beginning of summer, the temperature has continued to rise, but the amount of rainfall has been very low. The severe drought has affected over 14 million mu (2.3 million acres) of farmland and over 12 million mu (nearly 2 million acres) of crops in the province. Over 800,000 people have drinking water problems. Ma Fang, a 75-year-old man from Touzhai Town, holding water from the cellar, said, "We have not had rain for many years. We just had some snow a few days ago. Water from melted snow that we saved can last until May." Ma Fang lives in a village, which is further out from Huining County, where there was only 70 mm (4.2 inches) of rainfall in 2006. There is a severe water shortage for the local farmers. "Water is more precious than gold. I have lived 67 years and I have never seen a drought like this. This is the fifth year that we have had severe drought," said Wang De, an old man from Hexipo Village. Severe Spring Drought in Sichuan Suining City in Sichuan Province encountered severe drought in 2006, and again this spring. Shichanggou Village is surrounded by mountains and steep hills on three sides, and has no river channels. Vegetation and crops depend completely on rainfall. This village has become one of the most severely affected areas after the past three uninterrupted years of drought. Mr. Liu, a 79-year-old man, came on crutches to check his rice field. He said that the spring drought in Suining City is the most devastating drought in his entire life. Miyun Reservoir’s Lake Bed in Beijing Exposed There have been
seven consecutive years of drought in Beijing since 1999. In the spring
of this year rainfall decreased and the water level of Miyun Reservoir
dropped so low, due to the successive years of drought, that many
areas of the lake bed were exposed. Local farmers let their sheep
graze in the restricted area of Miyun Reservoir and steal fish. Back On May 4, The Yangtze Evening News reported that China's most famous kidney expert, Dr. Li Baochun, had committed suicide by jumping from the twelfth floor of the Shanghai No. 2 Military Medical University Shanghai Hospital Building. Dr. Li had served as Deputy Director of the hospital and as Professor and Chief Physician for kidney disease. The report said Dr. Li's suicide was caused by depression. On May 24, The Yangtze Evening News report was reproduced on several major websites including the website of China's most important official media, www.xinhua.net. Further analysis revealed that the cause of Dr. Li's depression and subsequent suicide was connected to his organ transplant work. Xinhua.net deleted the report almost immediately. Hospitalized for Depression Prior to Committing Suicide The Yangtze Evening News reported that an undisclosed source from inside the hospital had informed them of Dr. Li's depression and hospitalization. The source told The Yangtze Evening News that during the months of March and April 2007, Dr. Li was often unable to sleep. Dr. Li had begun to take sleeping pills but their effectiveness lasted only a very short time. He fainted once, but a physical exam could not offer an explanation. By May 1, Dr. Li's depression was getting more and more serious. He was admitted to the hospital's neurology ward and started taking antidepressant drugs. The source also revealed that on the day Dr. Li committed suicide, he had visited the seventh floor of Shanghai Hospital where he had served as Director of the Kidney Department of Medicine. The twelfth floor houses the Urological Surgery Department which was a source for fresh kidneys for Dr. Li's transplant work. A nurse told The Yangtze Evening News, that when a patient needs a kidney transplant, the transplant team will go to the Urological Team and request a healthy kidney. Many of the people working at Shanghai Hospital believed that Dr. Li had a wonderful life. He had everything including an excellent professional reputation, benefits, social position, car, house, kids and a wonderful future. Dr. Li's co-workers also said that he was at the top of his career. Dr. Li was only 44 years old. The Transplant Doctor's Depression Li's depression before his death appeared similar to the condition Annie (assumed name) had described as experienced by her ex-husband, the former Chief Surgeon at Sujiatun Hospital. Annie used to work at the Sujiatun Hospital. Annie has previously exposed the illegal harvesting of healthy organs from living Falun Gong practitioners at the Sujiatun Hospital. During the two years that he had worked as chief surgeon, her husband had often performed several cornea extractions daily without the consent of the donors. Organ Harvesting From Living Falun Gong Practitioners Shocks the World The exposure of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) brutal killing of Falun Gong practitioners for profit in Mainland China through the harvesting of their healthy organs for transplant has shocked the international community. In July 2006, two respected Canadian investigators announced to the world media that their investigations had confirmed that the CCP was involved in large-scale organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners. The report confirmed the existence of such practices today. In January 2007,
the Canadian investigators published a Revised Report into Allegations
of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China. The latest
report provided additional evidence that delineated the involvement
of the Chinese army and military hospitals in the organ harvesting
process. Back A new book The Inside Story of the Bloody Evacuation in Tiananmen Square was published recently by Truth Publishing House. It was issued for the first time in Hong Kong on May 10, inciting very strong reactions from people from all walks of life. During the interview with The Epoch Times , Wu Renhua, author of the book and editor-in-chief of the News Free Guide Paper , said that the book is the first one to record in detail the whole procedure of the bloody evacuation in Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989. It will help readers to understand the June 4 massacre more completely. Wu received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Department of Chinese at Beijing University. He majored in philology. After graduating, he worked as the director in the Historical Law Books Sorting Lab at China University of Politics and Law. Wu said, "My major is philology. It required rigor, precision, and accuracy where evidence is concerned. Since finishing the first draft in 1990, I spent more than ten years and a tremendous amount of effort to collect, add and revise materials and fulfill the textual research through inside documents, public materials, or from witnesses. I believe that the book will help the public understand the truth of what happened in those days." Wu went on to say that, "Some details in the book were disclosed for the first time. I believe very strongly that it can break the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s lies. I have always thought that it is very important to restore and record historical truths. The main reason that the Chinese communist regime, such a cruel, evil, and rotten power, has managed to survive in China for so many years lies in its tricks of concealing and warping history. If the Chinese people knew the real truth of history, I believe that the CCP would collapse very soon." According to Wu, the book not only records the major events and people involved with the June 4 massacre, it also brings light to the questions that people have been curious about ever since the event first took place. For example, did anyone die in Tiananmen Square? Wu describes in detail how Dai Jinpin, a student from Beijing Agriculture University, and Chen Renxing, a student from Chinese People's University died in Tiananmen Square. The book records the marching routes, movement, and suppression tasks of the forces involved in the massacre. It also records their performance in each of their tasks and the promotion of the officers involved afterwards. The book reveals how the Public Security Ministry and the army destroyed the bodies and tried to hide all traces of evidence. This method made it seem as though a lot of people suddenly disappeared when in truth, they had been killed in the massacre. This book also gives accounts and reports on the shootings near Funxingmen, Muxidi, Xidan, and Tiananmen. A lot of content is dedicated to informing the reader about how the common people used their own bodies to obstruct the military's armed forces in an attempt to protect the unarmed students who were protesting in Tiananmen Square. Wu Renhua actively attended many events during the democracy movement of 1989. He organized the first protest march on April 17, 1989. He was the person in charge of the hunger strike in Xinhuamen. He was sent to Tiananmen Square to maintain order under the "Fellow Countrymen Patriotic Law Protection Committee of Beijing" on June 3, 1989. He was present at the most bloody night in Chinese history when the Chinese authorities conducted the massacre. He fled to America in July 1990, and is now the chief editor of News Freedom Guide Newspaper, and Secretary General of the Chinese Constitutional Movement Association. Back Communist
Party Culture Affects People in Conflicts Back I often hear my Chinese friends talk about their daily conflicts, how tenant and owner or mother-in-law and daughter-in-law cannot get along with each other. In general they believe that these conflicts are natural and cannot be resolved. This reminds me of another common mentality of mainland Chinese nowadays. A lot of mainland Chinese think there is nothing wrong with the communist regime's killing, corruption, and dictatorship. Party Culture
vs. Traditional Culture Traditional Chinese culture, including Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism promote virtue and treating others benevolently. It is easy for people to resolve their conflicts with this kind of attitude. Tiananmen Square Massacre The communist regime promotes its party culture for the sake of maintaining its power. The 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre is a good example. The students wanted a dialogue, cessation of corruption and democracy, but in the regime's eyes, it means weakening the ruling power. The current persecution of Falun Gong is another good example. The regime cannot tolerate that more people believe in Falun Gong than in communism. In its mind, everyone is eager for power. That is why it is impossible for the Chinese people to avoid being persecuted under the regime's rule. One will be persecuted sooner or later. One may escape persecution in this campaign by luck but will be caught in another campaign later. The Real Damage In fact, the biggest crime committed by the Chinese communist regime is not its killing of thousands of innocent people or creating thousands of corrupt cadres who are all over the country sucking people's blood like leeches. The biggest crime is the destruction of traditional Chinese culture and the development of the party culture that it forcefully indoctrinated into every corner of Chinese society and every aspect of Chinese people's lives. It caused the moral degeneration in China and twisted people's minds about what is right and wrong, good and evil. With the spread of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and the impact of the Quit the CCP Campaign, I believe that the collapse of the regime is imminent. However, the damage has been done and the Chinese people will have an arduous road ahead to rebuild the nation's morality. Back |
