Chinese Communist Authorities Seek Taiwanese 'Internet Spy' Back

Amidst the intense and ongoing "information war" between China and Taiwan, a Global Times article on October 30, 2007 reported how Beijing issued a warrant for Lee Fangrong, with the claim that Lee is a Taiwanese Internet spy.

On October 31, Taiwanese legislator Sandy Yen responded to the incident and said that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a well organized and financially supported Internet army to steal political, financial and military information, and also advanced technology knowledge from key countries. Yen claims that the CCP is accusing others of crimes that they themselves commit.

During a recent interview with Global Times, the CCP's Ministry of State Security stated that it has issued a warrant to arrest the "Internet spy" Lee Fangrong. Furthermore, they said that, "if caught, severe punishment is guaranteed." The Ministry of State Security also claims that the CCP authorities are aware of many Taiwanese spies who are involved in Internet espionage.

According to the recently released semi-annual Internet safety report by the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT/CC), tens of thousands of Trojan IP's located outside of China were discovered during the first half of 2007.

Forty-two percent of the Trojans belonged to Taiwan and 25 percent belonged to the United States. In addition, there were several thousand botnet network servers that control computers in mainland China from the outside, with 32 percent belonging to the United States and 15 percent belonging to Taiwan.

Neither the Taiwan National Defense nor the Taiwan Military Information Bureau has responded to the sensitive report. The authenticity of CNCERT/CC's report has yet to be verified by other sources.

A press release by Sandy Yen on October 31, claims that the CCP Internet army's recent attacks in Taiwan, United States, Europe, and Asia have been denounced internationally. The Trojan and backdoor viruses created daily by the CCP account for one-third of their kind globally. Also, China has often been called the "Internet terrorist of the world."

According to Yen, it's nothing new that Taiwanese reporters are attacked by the CCP's Internet army more than a thousand times a day, yet the CCP uses the media to complain about being attacked. She said that the international community should work together to reprimand the CCP's misdeeds.

Yen pointed out that the CCP's establishment of an Internet army not only hacks the computer system of other governments but also damages computer systems throughout the world. The CCP's military hackers recently attacked the German government’s computer system on a large scale with Trojan horse viruses to steal confidential information. The hackers in the People's Liberation Army have continuously attempted to invade the British government's computer system, including that of the Prime Minister's office.

Yen said that if Taiwan maintains its silence, the CCP will use media wars to shift the blame onto Taiwan and use Taiwan as a scapegoat.Back

Former Chinese Reporter Reveals CCP's Far Reaching Propaganda Back

By Fan Huiqiang
Special to The Epoch Times

On October 23, The Melbourne branch of The Epoch Times held a symposium on The Nine Commentaries —a series of social commentaries detailing the brutal history of the Chinese Communist Party

For example, on April 5, 1976 people in Beijing went to Tiananmen Square to mourn the death of former Premier Zhou Enlai. The authorities did not want people to mourn the premier so they gave orders to disperse the people with force. Politburo member Yao Wenyuan, who was in charge of propaganda, came to the then broadcasting administrative bureau and held a press briefing. He declared the gathering an anti-revolutionary activity. Therefore all media directly under the central government would follow the same line.

In fact, the Party decides exactly what people will read, listen to and watch. When this degree of brainwashing day after day, month after month and year after year people become accustomed to it and begin to assume that what they read, hear and watch is the truth. Even when you are wrongly accused, imprisoned or thrown into the forced labor camps you and your family would thank the CCP for its leniency when you are released.

The CCP Uses Every Possible Means to Block Outside Information from Chinese People
To make sure its lies are not exposed, the CCP has continuously tried to cut off all links with the outside world. In the days before the Internet, the CCP jammed signals from the BBC, VOA, and Taiwanese radio stations.

When satellite TV and the Internet came into being, people outside China thought that the Chinese people would now be able to freely access information. But they have been proven wrong. The CCP screened Internet content with what they called the "Golden Shield" firewall which blocks all so-called "sensitive" topics and words. Installing a satellite receiver is illegal in China.

Propaganda Effectiveness
I think a lot of you still remember the June 4th Tiananmen Square Massacre. I was working at Radio Australia so I am not qualified to talk too much about the massacre itself. I only want to tell you how effective the CCP's brainwashing propaganda was. We received thousands of letters from China. All the letters from Beijing described the massacre they had seen or experienced. These listeners all accused the CCP of murdering its own people with guns and tanks. Some listeners vividly described how people were shot dead around them. Yet, Chinese on the mainland believed the students provoked the incident.

CCP's Media Control Has Expanded Overseas
The CCP pays great attention to what people say about it outside of China. To make sure that no one exposes its crimes, the CCP has worked very hard and spent huge sums of money to control the overseas media, especially the overseas Chinese media. The CCP uses four types of methods to reach this goal.
* (1) Completely take over or at least buy up the majority of shares of a media company so as to directly control the overseas Chinese newspapers, TV stations and radio stations;
* (2) Use an independent media company's business interests in China as a means of gaining influence and exerting economic blackmail;
* (3) Buy blocks of air-time or advertising space;
* (4) Have Chinese government employees infiltrate media organizations to cause disruption from within.

However, this is only a one-way trade. Western media is still banned in China. Back

Higher Power Involved in Unprecedented Politburo Lawsuit Back

By Xin Fei

CHINA—Recently The Epoch Times reported that the Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court accepted a civilian's lawsuit against a current standing member of the regime's Political Bureau. This unprecedented lawsuit has gained great attention from the world.

Zhou Yongkang, former Public Security Minister and currently Party Chief for the Central Political and Legal Committee, was the head of the regime's law enforcement and justice system.

Several analysts told The Epoch Times that this case is the key for current leader Hu Jintao to remove Zhou and crush former leader Jiang Zemin's power. It is also the preparation work for Hu to stand clear from Jiang's crimes and hold Zhou, Lo Gan, and Jiang responsible for their crimes in the persecution of Falun Gong.

High Level Authorities Back the Court
Hu Jia, a human right activist, said it is almost impossible to register a case like this in court and enter proceedings. "The Political and Legal Committee is the head of the evil force in China. Complaints from common people against high level officials will never be accepted and the plaintiffs are often punished. Zhou is the Party Chief of the Political and Legal Committee and former Minister of Public Security.

"According to the organizational setting, both the Directors of the People's Supreme Procurate and the Supreme Court report to Zhou. Zhou should have total power to control this case in any way he wants.

"Hence, there is either a power independent of and higher than the Political and Legal Committee that backs the decision of the court; another force pursuing judicial independence competing with the Political and Legal Committee; or a high level force using this case as a means to combat Zhou."

Strike Jiang by Combating Zhou
Dr. Li Tianxiao, who received his Ph.D. in politics from Columbia University, said that Hu's biggest threat comes from Jiang's faction. Jiang tried everything to hold on to the power because Hu will make him pay for his dues once he loses power within the party.

Li thinks Hu is attempting to combat Jiang from three aspects—higher level political struggle, local forces, and within the party system. "In higher level politics, Hu's biggest threat is Zhou, the Party Chief of the Political and Legal Committee who holds control over the police and armed police.

Preparing to Make Jiang Pay His Dues
According to Li, it is unprecedented that a court registered a case in which a common person sues a high level party official and the Ministry of Public Security was forced to issue an administrative proceeding. This case sets a precedent that any guilty official, even a high level official or a law enforcement party, can be sued. This is preparation work for Hu to later charge Jiang and his other followers for their crimes, and a powerful threat to Jiang.

A Tidal Wave of Corruption Lawsuits
Hu Jia considers this case meaningful regardless of the result. He thinks there will be tens of thousands of these types of cases emerging because people and history won't forgive the killers who trample on human rights. Wu Fan thinks politics in China will evolve faster and more shockingly, based on this recent series of events. Back

Former Shanghai Tycoon Could Face Death Penalty Back

The Epoch Times
Nov 03, 2007

According to Hong Kong's Apple Daily, on October 27, the Shanghai Second Intermediate People's Court has concluded its case against Zhou Zhengyi. Zhou was charged with bribery and fraud in transactions valued over 100 billion dollars. He could face the death penalty.

Following the closing of the 17th Congress, the case against Zhou Zhengyi, once believed to reflect power struggles within the Chinese Communist Party, concluded without immediate sentencing. The indictment revealed Zhou Zhengyi was charged on three counts of bribery (unit, corporate, and general), forging VAT (value added tax) receipts, and misappropriation of funds.

On October 30, the Guangdong's 21st Century Business Herald reported the bill of indictment against Zhou Zhengyi. It detailed that since January 1999, Zhou was involved in a bogus transaction on electrolytic copper valued over 100 billion dollars between Liyuan Company and Nongkai Group and its 15 other affiliated companies. Through bribery of bank staff and a huge amount of fake VAT invoices, Zhou obtained bank loans amounting to billions of dollars.

Zhou's defense lawyer Ma Shuning once claimed that the death penalty is an impossibility. However, there have been numerous death sentences associated with forging VAT receipts. Since 2003, six of the seven cases involving 60 million (over US$ 8 million) to nearly 400 million yuan (US$ 53.7 million) of illegal funds were sentenced to death.

Business as Usual—Even in Prison

Back in 2003, Zhou Zhengyi was suspected of evading taxes, manipulating stocks, and obtaining huge amounts of illegal loans. He redeveloped a land parcel covering 45.2 acres in the eastern part of Jing'an District in Shanghai without paying a land lease having an estimated value of 300 million yuan (US$40.3 million). Zhou was slammed with a three-year sentence.

Zhou changed his name while in prison, and by bribing officials with millions of yuan, he received special treatment and operated his business from inside the prison. He was released last May. On January 20, he was re-arrested because of involvement in former Shanghai Party Leader Chen Liangyu's case. Chen's case which involved allegations of looting Shanghai's social security fund was later dismissed.

Jiang Zemin's Son Confides 'State Secrets' to Zhou

Hong Kong news media reported that authorities dug up evidence that implicated Jiang Mianheng—former Chinese leader Jiang Zeming's son—in a crime scandal.

Just before Zhou Zhengyi's case went to trial, the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy in China quoted sources saying that Zhou met Jiang Mianheng in a bar before he was arrested on May 26, 2003.

Jiang Mianheng disclosed some state secrets to Zhou, including details of the case of Liu Jinbao—former president of the Bank of China in Hong Kong. Authorities are said to have obtained volumes of recordings of this conversation. Back

Australia: Falun Dafa Practitioner Wins Lawsuit against Bo Xilai Back

By Luona and Xinyu in Sydney, Australia

(Clearwisdom.net) At a press conference in front of the New South Wales Supreme Court in Sydney on November 7, 2007, Falun Gong practitioners announced that the Supreme Court of NSW had issued a default judgment on November 5, recognizing that the defendant, Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, had failed to provide a defense for the case brought against him by Mr. Pan Yu. The judgment was in favor of the plaintiff, Falun Gong practitioner Pan Yu.

When the Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai accompanied Hu Jintao to Australia for the Asia-Pacific Summit on September 4, 2007, he was served a summons in person at his hotel the first day he arrived in Canberra, the capital of Australia. When the court opened for a hearing on October 8, it accepted the testimony submitted by the plaintiff's lawyer, but Bo Xilai did not appear in court, nor send a lawyer on his behalf. The court then ruled against Bo Xilai in the second hearing held on November 5.

The Supreme Court of NSW's judgment against Bo Xilai has a profound meaning

The legal assistant of the plaintiff, Newton Xu, believes that the victory in this case has significant meaning. China's legal system is unable to provide people with a guarantee of their basic rights, while in Australia and other democratic countries, this is the court's basic duty; the court is a symbol of justice and fairness. This case can also encourage more people in China to seek their basic human rights. Bo Xilai is the highest ranking Chinese Communist Party official to be found guilty in an overseas lawsuit. This case also serves as a potent reminder to other CCP officials who have participated in the persecution of Falun Gong.

That the defendant Bo Xilai was served a summons but did not dare to appear in court or make any response shows that he is very clear about his active role in the persecution of Falun Gong and that it is against the law and a violation of human rights. If he were to respond, he would have to submit to the court's cross-examination, and accept the verdict. Mr. Newton stated that attempts by high-ranking officials who participated in the persecution to evade trial will fail, and that they will not escape just punishment. Today's judgment against Bo Xilai is a good example.

Plaintiff Pan Yu said in an interview that he was very pleased about winning the case. He thanked the Australian court for upholding justice and issuing a judgment against the criminal. He believed that this showed that the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong is against the people's will, and has roused indignation of the world's people.

According to reliable sources, there are forty-seven lawsuits worldwide against Chinese Communist government officials for their roles in the persecution of Falun Gong. Aside from the recent judgment on Bo Xilai in Australia, a number of other lawsuits have been judged in favor of Falun Gong practitioners; these include, lawsuits in America against the Mayor of Beijing, Liu Qi, former deputy mayor of Liaoning Province, Xia Deren, former Minister for Public Security in Hubei Province, Zhao Zhifei, and a lawsuit in Canada against Toronto Chief Consular of the Chinese Embassy, Pan Xinchun, for the crime of libel.

President of the New South Wales Falun Dafa Association, Ms Zhao, hopes these lawsuits will remind people to keep a watchful eye on the severity of the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Regime. She also hopes more and more people will come to understand the truth of the persecution, and stand together to end these crimes of genocide. She feels the main culprits who instigated this large-scale persecution campaign, including Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, Zhou Yongkang, and those officials who closely follow the orders of Jiang Zemin, such as Bo Xilai, will be unable to escape history's judgment. Gao Zhisheng's First Contact with Outside World Since His Unlawful Secret Arrest Back

By Gu Qinger
Epoch Times Staff
Nov 03, 2007

Hu Jia, Beijing-based AIDS activist, received a phone call from Gao Zhisheng, China's most prominent human rights lawyer, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on October 28.

It was the first time Gao has contacted the outside world since being secretly arrested by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) regime's authorities on September 22.

Not long before that, Gao wrote an open letter to members of the U.S. Congress condemning the CCP for having increased the persecution of religious and human rights defenders before the 2008 Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Beijing.

Hu Jia told our reporter, "I got a phone call from an unknown number on the night of October 28. The area code belongs to Xian City, Shaanxi Province. I recognized lawyer Gao's voice right away. I'm very familiar with his northern Shaanxi accent. I was very excited and called out: 'Lawyer Gao!'"

Mr. Hu reported their conversation, which lasted only one and a half minutes.

"Lawyer Gao asked me not to go visit his family. He also asked me to think more about my family and take good care of Zeng Jinyan and our unborn baby right now."

Hu told Gao that "Although I'm in unlawful detention, the first thing I'll do after I get freedom is to visit your wife and Gege (Gao's daughter)."

Gao repeated, "I know you won't listen to me on this, but you'd better not go." Hu Jia responded, "Your wife and kids are all in fear." Gao replied, "They should be better now." Gao also told Hu that he would be staying in Shaanxi Province and Shanxi Province for a while to take care of something.

Hu passed on the news to Gao that Huang Yan, a Hubei Province-based human rights defender and Gao's close family friend, was violently kidnapped by the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau's "National Security" Squad on September 22. She was released on October 23, after a one-month detention at Jin Zhou City, Hubei Province. Gao replied, "Please relay my thanks to her for what she has done. I have to go." The phone call was then cut off.

Hu Jia pointed out, "Under these circumstances, the main purpose of the authorities allowing Gao to call me was to relieve the pressure from the outside to save lawyer Gao. The authorities also did this to cut off my connection with him. As Gao mentioned clearly for me to cut off the contact with his family, this is the most important thing to the authorities."

Hu Jia said he was relieved to hear Gao Zhisheng's voice again. He is optimistic about Gao's situation. He predicts that Gao will go back to Beijing and be together with his family soon.

Gao Zhisheng wrote one open letter to the National Peoples' Congress in 2004 and two open letters to Hu Jintao and Wen Jibao in 2005, before his open letter to the members of the U.S. Congress, requesting that they stop the persecution toward Falun Gong practitioners. In December 2006, he was sentenced to three years in prison for "subversion of the state," with a five-year "suspended sentence," and denial of all of his constitutional rights, such as freedom of speech and free association, for one year. Gao and his family have been under strict surveillance by the authorities ever since, and they have been repeatedly harassed. Thugs have beaten his daughter, apparently under the direction of someone—or some faction of—the CCP. Back
